Disco Turkeys defeated Scorpions 2-0 on Thursday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Mike Maddux and Ramiro Mendoza each pitched for Disco Turkeys in the game. Maddux induced a fly out from Greg Vaughn to get the last out.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Disco Turkeys pitchers struck out five, while Scorpions sat down 10.
Disco Turkeys were the first to get on the board in the fifth when Mark Grace hit a solo home run to right field.
Mendoza started the game for Disco Turkeys. The righty gave up four hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking two. Roger Clemens opened the game for Scorpions. The righty allowed nine hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking two. Maddux tossed two innings of zero-run ball for Disco Turkeys in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Disco Turkeys piled up nine hits in the game. Grace and Eddie Perez each collected two hits for Disco Turkeys. Grace and Johnny Damon each drove in one run for Disco Turkeys. Disco Turkeys didn't commit a single error in the field. Grace had the most chances in the field with eight.
Edgar Rentaria led Scorpions with two hits in four at bats from the leadoff position.
