It came down to the wire on Sunday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746, as Scorpions grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 6-5, over Kelly Leak Allstars. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the ninth when Nomar Garciaparra hit a solo home run to center field.
Scorpions were the first to get on the board in the second when Paul O’Neill hit a solo home run to right field.
Kelly Leak Allstars captured the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth after Andruw Jones singled to center field, and Carlos Hernandez singled to left field, each scoring one run.
Jeff Cirillo singled to center field, which helped Scorpions tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth.
Kelly Leak Allstars took the lead in the top of the sixth. Jones homered to center field, scoring two runs, to give Kelly Leak Allstars the advantage, 4-2.
Jones hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the eighth for the Kelly Leak Allstars.
Glenallen Hill homered to center field, which helped Scorpions tie the game at five in the bottom of the eighth.
Randy Johnson earned the win for Scorpions. The starter surrendered nine hits and five runs over nine innings, striking out 14 and walking four. Greg Maddux took the loss for Kelly Leak Allstars. The starting pitcher went eight and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits, striking out five and walking two.
Scorpions accumulated 10 hits in the game. Hill provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Scorpions with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Otis Nixon went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Scorpions in hits. Garciaparra collected two hits for Scorpions in four at bats. Scorpions turned one double play in the game. Scorpions were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Jorge Posada had the most chances in the field with 14.
Kelly Leak Allstars amassed nine hits in the game. Jones, the number eight hitter for Kelly Leak Allstars, led the way with four runs batted in. The center fielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Craig Biggio collected two hits for Kelly Leak Allstars in four at bats. Biggio stole two bases. Kelly Leak Allstars turned two double plays in the game. Kelly Leak Allstars were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Biggio made the most plays with 10.
