2 Pitchers Work Together As Suffolk Suns Shut Out Sledgehammers

Suffolk Suns defeated Sledgehammers 2-0 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ugueth Urbina and Kerry Wood each pitched for Suffolk Suns in the game. Urbina struck out Jeff Bagwell to get the last out.


The pitching was strong on both sides. Suffolk Suns pitchers struck out 14, while Sledgehammers sat down seven.


Suffolk Suns were the first to get on the board in the seventh when Gary DiSarcina homered to left field, scoring two runs.


Wood earned the win for Suffolk Suns. The hurler gave up three hits and zero runs over eight innings, striking out 13 and walking one. Mike Mussina took the loss for Sledgehammers. The starter went nine innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking two. Urbina collected the save.


DiSarcina, the number eight hitter for Suffolk Suns, led the way with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day. DiSarcina and Gary Gaetti each collected two hits for Suffolk Suns. Wood threw two immaculate innings for Suffolk Suns where the starting pitcher struck out the side on nine pitches. Suffolk Suns turned two double plays in the game. Suffolk Suns didn't commit a single error in the field. Charles Johnson had the most chances in the field with 14.


Albert Belle, Ken Griffey Jr, and Moises Alou each collected one hit for Sledgehammers. Sledgehammers turned two double plays in the game. Sledgehammers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bret Boone had the most chances in the field with nine.




Suffolk Suns will travel to Scorpions for their next game on Tuesday.
