
Bernie Williams drove in four runs on two hits to lead M and H Lumber Company past Suffolk Suns 10-4 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. In the third inning, Williams hit a grand slam to center field.
M and H Lumber Company won thanks in part to 10 runs in the third inning. Vinny Castilla drew a walk, scoring one run, Richie Sexson was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Rafael Palmeiro singled, scoring one run, Vlad Guerrero singled, scoring two runs, Ivan Rodriguez drew a walk, scoring one run, and Williams hit a grand slam to center field.
Suffolk Suns were the first to get on the board in the first when Barry Bonds homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Bonds hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Suffolk Suns.
Orlando Hernandez stepped on the hill first for M and H Lumber Company. The righty gave up 10 hits and four runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three. Kerry Wood stepped on the hill first for Suffolk Suns. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and 10 runs (five earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking four. Jim Mecir pitched two innings of shutout ball for M and H Lumber Company in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits, striking out two and walking none.
