The bottom of the lineup helped Kelly Leak Allstars capture a 6-1 victory over Suffolk Suns on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Sal Fasano, Darren Lewis, and Andruw Jones combined for four of the team's eight hits in the victory. They scored zero runs and drove in three.
Kelly Leak Allstars were the first to get on the board in the second when Scott Brosius hit a solo home run to left field.
Kelly Leak Allstars added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Mark McGwire homered to left field, and Jones doubled to right field, each scoring one run.
Suffolk Suns scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to center field by Derek Bell.
Kelvim Escobar opened the game for Kelly Leak Allstars. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and one run over nine innings, striking out eight and walking five. Francisco Cordova started on the mound for Suffolk Suns. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and six runs (five earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out six and walking five.
Jones led Kelly Leak Allstars with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The center fielder went 3-for-5 on the day. McGwire led Kelly Leak Allstars with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Escobar threw an immaculate inning in the second, striking out the side on nine pitches. Kelly Leak Allstars turned two double plays in the game.
Charles Johnson, Gary DiSarcina, Tony Clark, Bell, Carlos Delgado, and Jim Edmonds each collected one hit for Suffolk Suns. Bell led Suffolk Suns with one run batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day.
