Carl Everett’s Clutch Hitting in Back to Back Games Propels Massapequa Mafia To Victory Over Disco Turkeys

Carl Everett drove in four runs on two hits to lead Massapequa Mafia past Disco Turkeys 11-3 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Everett hit a home run to center field in the eighth inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the ninth inning, scoring one.

Disco Turkeys got on the board in the third inning after Rusty Greer singled, scoring one run.

Javy Lopez homered to center field, which helped Massapequa Mafia tie the game at one in the top of the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Massapequa Mafia broke up the tie when Mo Vaughn singled, scoring two runs. Then a fielder's choice by Everett followed to extend the lead to 4-1.

Massapequa Mafia scored two runs in the top of the eighth on a home run to center field by Everett.

Massapequa Mafia scored five runs on five hits in the top of the ninth inning. Sammy Sosa drew a walk, scoring one run, Vaughn singled, scoring one run, Everett singled, scoring one run, Travis Fryman hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Lopez singled, scoring one run.

Andy Pettitte earned the win for Massapequa Mafia. The hurler gave up four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking four. Ramiro Mendoza took the loss for Disco Turkeys. The righty went six innings, giving up four runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one. Jeff Shaw pitched one inning of no-run ball for Massapequa Mafia in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out none and walking none.

Massapequa Mafia amassed 14 hits in the game. Vaughn went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Massapequa Mafia in hits. Lopez, Dante Bichette, and Fryman each collected multiple hits for Massapequa Mafia. Massapequa Mafia turned one double play in the game.

Mark Grace, Chad Curtis, Greer, Marvin Benard, and Derek Jeter each collected one hit for Disco Turkeys. Mickey Morandini and Greer each drove in one run for Disco Turkeys.
