Competitive Game Ends In Walkoff As M and H Lumber Company Falls To Scorpions 2-1 in Season Opener




M and H Lumber Company fell to Scorpions 2-1 on Monday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746 on the final play of the game. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the tenth when an error scored one run.


The pitching was strong on both sides. Scorpions pitchers struck out 11, while M and H Lumber Company sat down 14.


A solo home run to right field by Todd Helton put M and H Lumber Company on the board in the top of the fourth.


Jim Thome homered to right field, which helped Scorpions tie the game at one in the bottom of the eighth.


Chad Bradford earned the win for Scorpions. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Trevor Hoffman took the loss for M and H Lumber Company. The reliever went two innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out four and walking none. Al Leiter began the game for M and H Lumber Company. The hurler allowed three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Randy Johnson started the game for Scorpions. The lefty surrendered six hits and one run over eight innings, striking out nine and walking three.


M and H Lumber Company collected nine hits in the game. Vinny Castilla and Bernie Williams were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for M and H Lumber Company while hitting back-to-back. Helton went 1-for-5 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Leiter threw an immaculate inning in the second, striking out the side on nine pitches. M and H Lumber Company turned one double play in the game.


Thome and Roberto Alomar each collected two hits for Scorpions. Thome went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Scorpions turned two double plays in the game. Scorpions didn't commit a single error in the field. Mike Redmond had the most chances in the field with 14.
