Disco Turkeys Avoid Sweep with 6-2 Victory Over Sledgehammers

Disco Turkeys were victorious against Sledgehammers 6-2 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.

Disco Turkeys opened the scoring in the first after Mark Grace singled, scoring one run.

Jeff Bagwell singled to right field, which helped Sledgehammers tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Sledgehammers took the lead in the bottom of the second. Ramiro Mendoza induced Barry Larkin to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, to give Sledgehammers the edge, 2-1.

Eddie Perez doubled to right field, which helped Disco Turkeys tie the game at two in the top of the fifth.

In the top of the seventh, Disco Turkeys broke up the tie when Johnny Damon doubled, scoring two runs. Then a single by Brian McRae followed to extend the lead to 6-2.

Chuck Finley earned the win for Disco Turkeys. The left-handed pitcher surrendered five hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out four and walking three. Mike Mussina took the loss for Sledgehammers. The starter went seven innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits, striking out one and walking one. Mendoza stepped on the bump first for Disco Turkeys. The starter gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking two. Robb Nen pitched one inning of scoreless ball for Disco Turkeys in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out none and walking none.

Grace and McRae were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Disco Turkeys. Damon and McRae were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Disco Turkeys. Disco Turkeys turned one double play in the game.

Larkin and Bagwell were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Sledgehammers. Moises Alou led Sledgehammers with two hits in five at bats. Sledgehammers turned three double plays in the game.
