El Duque and M and H Lumber Company Defeat Suffolk Suns 7-2




M and H Lumber Company were victorious against Suffolk Suns 7-2 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.


M and H Lumber Company got on the board in the first inning after Todd Helton hit a solo home run to center field.


Chipper Jones homered to center field, which helped Suffolk Suns tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.


In the top of the second, M and H Lumber Company broke up the tie when Edgar Martinez doubled, scoring one run. Then an error followed to extend the lead to 3-1.


Charles Johnson hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Suffolk Suns.


Orlando Hernandez stepped on the bump first for M and H Lumber Company. The right-handed pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over eight innings, striking out six and walking two. Andy Ashby started the game for Suffolk Suns. The pitcher allowed 10 hits and six runs (five earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out one and walking none. Dan Plesac pitched one inning of zero-run ball for M and H Lumber Company in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking none.


M and H Lumber Company amassed 12 hits in the game. Helton drove the middle of the lineup, leading M and H Lumber Company with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-5 on the day. Juan Encarnacion went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead M and H Lumber Company in hits. Martinez, Bernie Williams, and Benito Santiago each collected multiple hits for M and H Lumber Company. M and H Lumber Company were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Santiago made the most plays with five.


Johnson, Jones, Ray Durham, and Jim Edmonds each collected one hit for Suffolk Suns. Johnson and Jones each drove in one run for Suffolk Suns. Suffolk Suns turned one double play in the game.
