Hits Aplenty In Yesterday’s Knights Victory Over Sledgehammers




Both Yesterday’s Knights and Sledgehammers had their offenses going on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746, but Yesterday’s Knights eventually prevailed 10-9. Yesterday’s Knights collected 14 hits, while Sledgehammers had 14.


Yesterday’s Knights didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at nine in the top of the eleventh when Larry Walker hit a solo home run to right field.


Yesterday’s Knights were the first to get on the board in the fourth when Gary Sheffield hit a solo home run to right field.


Sledgehammers captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the fourth when Juan Gonzalez homered to center field, scoring two runs, Bret Boone doubled, scoring one run, and Quilvio Veras scored after tagging up.


Yesterday’s Knights flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Walker that drove in two.


Jason Kendall homered to right field, scoring two runs in the top of the eighth for the Yesterday’s Knights.


Sledgehammers tied the game in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a home run to left field by Moises Alou, and a single by Bobby Abreu.


Gil Heredia led things off on the mound for Yesterday’s Knights. The righty surrendered three hits and three runs (two earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking none. Mike Mussina stepped on the hill first for Sledgehammers. The starting pitcher gave up nine hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Doug Jones pitched two innings of no-run ball for Yesterday’s Knights in relief. The reliever gave up two hits, striking out two and walking none.


Yesterday’s Knights collected 14 hits in the game. Walker provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Yesterday’s Knights with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Leadoff hitter Kendall led Yesterday’s Knights with four hits in six at bats. John Olerud, Fernando Vina, and Sheffield each collected multiple hits for Yesterday’s Knights. Yesterday’s Knights turned one double play in the game.


Sledgehammers collected 14 hits in the game. Alou went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Sledgehammers in hits. Boone, Gonzalez, and Alou each drove in two runs for Sledgehammers. Albert Belle collected two hits for Sledgehammers in five at bats. Sledgehammers turned one double play in the game. Sledgehammers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Brad Ausmus made the most plays with nine.
