How Sweep it is, Thank Todd ! Scorpions Defeat Massapequa Mafia On Multiple Hit Performance By Todd Helton



Todd Helton collected three hits in four at bats, as Scorpions defeated Massapequa Mafia 12-1 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Helton hit a solo home run to center field in the sixth inning, doubled in the third inning, and doubled in the eighth inning.


A single by Gerald Williams put Scorpions on the board in the top of the second.


Scorpions added one run in the third after Massapequa Mafia committed an error.


Scorpions scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Nomar Garciaparra drew a walk, scoring one run, Otis Nixon singled, scoring two runs, Jose Offerman tripled, scoring two runs, and Jeff Cirillo hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.


Helton hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the sixth for the Scorpions.


Sammy Sosa hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the ninth for the Massapequa Mafia.


Ramon Martinez earned the win for Scorpions. The hurler gave up three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking three. Tom Glavine took the loss for Massapequa Mafia. The pitcher went four innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking five. Chad Bradford threw two innings of zero-run ball for Scorpions in relief. The hurler surrendered one hit, striking out two and walking none.


Scorpions tallied 15 hits in the game. Helton and Offerman each collected three hits for Scorpions. Williams, Cirillo, Offerman, and Nixon each drove in two runs for Scorpions. Glenallen Hill collected two hits for Scorpions in five at bats. Scorpions had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Cirillo and Garciaparra led the team with two free passes each. Offerman stole two bases. Scorpions turned one double play in the game. Scorpions were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Mike Redmond had the most chances in the field with 11.


Sosa went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Massapequa Mafia turned one double play in the game.




Scorpions play at home on Tuesday against Suffolk Suns in their next game.
