Jason Giambi Powers Yesterday’s Knights Past Sledgehammers

Jason Giambi hit two home runs and drove in two as Yesterday’s Knights defeated Sledgehammers 6-0 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Giambi homered in the sixth and eighth innings.
John Smoltz started things off strong for Yesterday’s Knights as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Yesterday’s Knights's pitchers struck out 11 on the way to victory.
Yesterday’s Knights opened the scoring in the sixth after Giambi hit a solo home run to right field.
Yesterday’s Knights added four more runs in the top of the eighth inning on four hits. Giambi hit a solo home run to right field, Gary Sheffield singled, scoring one run, and Larry Walker singled, scoring two runs.
Smoltz started on the bump for Yesterday’s Knights. The starter gave up five hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Kevin Brown opened the game for Sledgehammers. The pitcher gave up seven hits and four runs over seven and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking four. Mike Williams pitched two innings of shutout ball for Yesterday’s Knights in relief. The hurler allowed one hit, striking out two and walking none.
Yesterday’s Knights piled up 10 hits in the game. Walker drove the middle of the lineup, leading Yesterday’s Knights with three runs batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Yesterday’s Knights turned one double play in the game. Yesterday’s Knights were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Jason Kendall had the most chances in the field with 11.
Barry Larkin, Ken Caminiti, Bret Boone, Juan Gonzalez, Ken Griffey Jr, and Jeff Bagwell each collected one hit for Sledgehammers.
