John Olerud’s Big Day Propels Yesterday’s Knights Past Kelly Leak Allstars




John Olerud collected three hits in four at bats, as Yesterday’s Knights defeated Kelly Leak Allstars 10-7 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Olerud hit a home run to right field in the first inning, doubled in the eighth inning, and doubled in the third inning.


Yesterday’s Knights were the first to get on the board in the first when Olerud homered to right field, scoring two runs.


Manny Ramirez homered to left field, which helped Kelly Leak Allstars tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.


A solo home run to right field by Jason Giambi gave Yesterday’s Knights the lead, 3-2, in the top of the second.


Kelly Leak Allstars took the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Andruw Jones doubled to center field, and Omar Vizquel singled to center field, each scoring one run.


Gary Sheffield singled to center field, which helped Yesterday’s Knights tie the game at four in the top of the third.


A single by Jim Leyritz gave Kelly Leak Allstars the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the fifth.


A single by Edgardo Alfonzo gave Yesterday’s Knights the lead, 6-5, in the top of the sixth.


Yesterday’s Knights added four more runs in the top of the eighth inning on four hits. Olerud doubled, scoring one run, and Ellis Burks homered to left field, scoring three runs.


Ramirez homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth for the Kelly Leak Allstars.


Matt Morris earned the win for Yesterday’s Knights. The hurler surrendered 11 hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking four. Darren Dreifort took the loss for Kelly Leak Allstars. The starter went six innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking one. Mike Williams collected the save.


Yesterday’s Knights piled up 12 hits in the game. Alfonzo and Giambi each collected multiple hits for Yesterday’s Knights. Yesterday’s Knights turned one double play in the game.


Kelly Leak Allstars tallied 13 hits in the game. Ramirez provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Kelly Leak Allstars with four runs batted in. The right fielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Jones, Kelly Leak Allstars's number eight hitter, led the team with three hits in five at-bats. Vizquel, Eric Davis, and Leyritz each collected multiple hits for Kelly Leak Allstars. Craig Biggio stole two bases. Kelly Leak Allstars turned one double play in the game. Kelly Leak Allstars were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Mark McGwire had the most chances in the field with nine.
