John Valentin’s Big Day Propels Yesterday’s Knights in Sweep over Scorpions




John Valentin drove in five runs on three hits to lead Yesterday’s Knights past Scorpions 17-5 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Valentin singled in the fourth scoring two, doubled in the first scoring one, hit a solo home run to center field in the third scoring one, and hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth scoring one.


Scorpions were the first to get on the board in the first when Rafael Palmeiro hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.


Yesterday’s Knights jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Jason Kendall homered to left field, Valentin doubled to center field, and Derek Jeter walked, each scoring one run.


Scorpions tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a solo home run to right field by Roberto Alomar, and a fielder's choice by Edgar Rentaria.


Yesterday’s Knights took the lead in the bottom of the third. Valentin hit a solo home run to center field, to give Yesterday’s Knights the leg up, 4-3.


Yesterday’s Knights scored seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gary Sheffield doubled, scoring two runs, Valentin singled, scoring two runs, Ellis Burks tripled, scoring two runs, and Jeter singled, scoring one run.


Gil Heredia earned the win for Yesterday’s Knights. The righty gave up two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Donovan Osborne took the loss for Scorpions. The hurler went three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking three. Kenny Rogers stepped on the hill first for Yesterday’s Knights. The starter gave up eight hits and three runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Mike Williams appeared in relief for Yesterday’s Knights.


Yesterday’s Knights amassed 14 hits in the game. Jeter, Fernando Vina, Kendall, and Sheffield each collected multiple hits for Yesterday’s Knights. Larry Walker paced Yesterday’s Knights with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting 10 walks for the game. Yesterday’s Knights turned two double plays in the game.


Scorpions tallied 14 hits in the game. Mike Redmond, Glenallen Hill, Vladimir Guerrero, Rentaria, Jeff Cirillo, and Alomar each collected two hits for Scorpions. Redmond, Rentaria, Greg Vaughn, Alomar, and Palmeiro each drove in one run for Scorpions. Scorpions turned two double plays in the game.




Yesterday’s Knights welcome M and H Lumber Company on Tuesday for their next game.
