Kerry Wood and Suffolk Suns Stifle M and H Lumber Company Handing them to League Leading 10th Loss.



Suffolk Suns defeated M and H Lumber Company 2-0 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ugueth Urbina and Kerry Wood each pitched for Suffolk Suns in the game. Urbina induced a double play to get the last out.


Both teams were strong on the bump. Suffolk Suns pitchers struck out 11, while M and H Lumber Company sat down five.


Suffolk Suns got on the board in the seventh inning after Jim Edmonds hit a solo home run to center field.


Andres Gallaraga hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the eighth for the Suffolk Suns.


Wood started the game for Suffolk Suns. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over eight innings, striking out 10 and walking two. Jamie Moyer stepped on the mound first for M and H Lumber Company. The southpaw allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Urbina threw one inning of zero-run ball for Suffolk Suns in relief. The pitcher surrendered one hit, striking out one and walking one.


Number nine hitter, Charles Johnson, showed the depth of Suffolk Suns's lineup, by leading them with two hits in four at bats. Edmonds and Gallaraga each drove in one run for Suffolk Suns. Suffolk Suns turned one double play in the game. Suffolk Suns were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Johnson made the most plays with 11.


Bernie Williams, Vinny Castilla, Ivan Rodriguez, and Todd Helton each collected one hit for M and H Lumber Company. M and H Lumber Company turned one double play in the game.
