In a decisive roster move, the 2024 Winter Strat Pack champion Knights announced yesterday that they are waiving Luis Castillo, who failed to appear in any of the team’s first three games. Co-General Managers Jon Meyers and Rich Prestano cited mounting frustration with Castillo’s unresolved visa issues, which had led to repeated visits from I.C.E. officers around the team. The distraction reportedly weighed heavily on the clubhouse, ultimately prompting the Knights to part ways with Castillo.
The final straw came after the Lumber Company released Darryl Strawberry this week, opening the door for the Knights to reunite the former slugger with several of his former Mets and Yankees teammates. Meyers and Prestano, eager to bring Strawberry’s presence and experience back into their lineup, saw this as the perfect opportunity to strengthen their roster.
In a statement, Prestano shared his excitement, saying, "Darryl brings a special energy and camaraderie, and we know he’ll be a great fit alongside his former teammates.” Strawberry’s addition is expected to inject fresh momentum as the Knights look to defend their Winter Strat Pack title despite the slow 1-2 start, with this new twist to their roster.
