M and H Lumber Company Come Back To Defeat Massapequa Mafia




Despite trailing by as many as four runs, M and H Lumber Company rallied to defeat Massapequa Mafia 9-7 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.


Bernie Williams collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Williams singled in the seventh inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the ninth inning.


Massapequa Mafia jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Travis Fryman homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Tony Gwynn doubled, scoring one run.


M and H Lumber Company tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a single by Rickey Henderson, a sacrifice fly by Roberto Alomar, and a double by Benito Santiago.


Massapequa Mafia took the lead in the bottom of the third. Mo Vaughn homered to center field, scoring two runs, to give Massapequa Mafia the edge, 5-3.


Vaughn hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth for the Massapequa Mafia.


In the top of the seventh inning, M and H Lumber Company went back into the lead after Juan Encarnacion doubled to center field, Williams singled to center field, Alomar singled to left field, Richie Sexson doubled to right field, and Rafael Palmeiro hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.


Jim Mecir pitched three and one-third innings in relief for M and H Lumber Company. The hurler gave up two hits and one run (zero earned) while, striking out four and walking none. Orlando Hernandez stepped on the bump first for M and H Lumber Company. The hurler gave up four hits and five runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking three. Tom Glavine led things off on the hill for Massapequa Mafia. The hurler allowed seven hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four and walking two.


M and H Lumber Company accumulated 14 hits in the game. Sexson and Alomar each drove in two runs for M and H Lumber Company. Henderson and Ivan Rodriguez each collected multiple hits for M and H Lumber Company.


Massapequa Mafia tallied 10 hits in the game. Vaughn provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Massapequa Mafia with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 5-for-5 on the day. Carl Everett collected two hits for Massapequa Mafia in four at bats. Massapequa Mafia turned two double plays in the game.
