Mo Vaughn hit two home runs and drove in three as Massapequa Mafia defeated M and H Lumber Company 9-6 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Vaughn homered in the third and seventh innings.
Massapequa Mafia jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Sammy Sosa singled, scoring one run, Frank Thomas drew a walk, scoring one run, Travis Fryman doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.
Massapequa Mafia added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Vaughn homered to center field, and Jay Bell hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Massapequa Mafia scored one run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run to center field by Vaughn.
Pedro Martinez led things off on the hill for Massapequa Mafia. The hurler surrendered 11 hits and six runs (five earned) over seven and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking four. Al Leiter stepped on the hill first for M and H Lumber Company. The lefty gave up 11 hits and nine runs (eight earned) over nine innings, striking out 11 and walking two. Mike Jackson pitched one and two-thirds innings of zero-run ball for Massapequa Mafia in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
