Massapequa Mafia defeated Yesterday’s Knights 1-0 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Gabe White and Andy Pettitte each pitched for Massapequa Mafia in the game. White induced a fly out from Shannon Stewart to get the last out.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Massapequa Mafia pitchers struck out seven, while Yesterday’s Knights sat down seven.
A sacrifice fly by Sammy Sosa put Massapequa Mafia on the board in the bottom of the first.
Pettitte stepped on the bump first for Massapequa Mafia. The starter gave up six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Kenny Rogers stepped on the mound first for Yesterday’s Knights. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out six and walking one. White pitched two innings of scoreless ball for Massapequa Mafia in relief. The hurler surrendered one hit, striking out two and walking one.
Sosa led Massapequa Mafia with one run batted in. Leadoff hitter Travis Fryman led Massapequa Mafia with two hits in four at bats. Massapequa Mafia turned two double plays in the game.
Richard Hidalgo and Jason Kendall each collected two hits for Yesterday’s Knights. Kendall stole two bases. Yesterday’s Knights were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Kendall had the most chances in the field with seven.
