Moises Alou Helps Sledgehammers Slug Their Way To 2nd Straight Victory Against Suffolk Suns 5-1

Moises Alou hit two home runs and drove in two as Sledgehammers defeated Suffolk Suns 5-1 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Alou homered in the fourth and eighth innings.


The bottom of the lineup was strong for Sledgehammers. Brad Ausmus, Bret Boone, and Ken Caminiti combined for five of the team's eight hits in their victory. They scored two runs and drove in two.


Sledgehammers got on the board in the second inning after Boone singled, scoring one run.


Charles Johnson homered to left field, which helped Suffolk Suns tie the game at one in the top of the third.


Sledgehammers jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Alou homered to center field, and Boone singled to left field, each scoring one run.


Sledgehammers scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run to left field by Alou.


Curt Schilling led things off on the hill for Sledgehammers. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and one run over nine innings, striking out six and walking six. Andy Ashby started on the mound for Suffolk Suns. The hurler surrendered eight hits and five runs over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four.


Sledgehammers's Boone, the number eight hitter, led Sledgehammers with three hits in four at bats. Sledgehammers turned three double plays in the game. Sledgehammers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Barry Larkin had the most chances in the field with eight.


Johnson went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Derek Bell led Suffolk Suns with two hits in four at bats. Chipper Jones paced Suffolk Suns with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Suffolk Suns were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Johnson had the most chances in the field with six.
