Scorpions bested Sledgehammers 7-3 on Friday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.
Scorpions were the first to get on the board in the second when Todd Helton hit a solo home run to center field.
Jorge Posada homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth for the Scorpions.
Al Leiter earned the win for Scorpions. The starting pitcher allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking two. Curt Schilling took the loss for Sledgehammers. The righty went six innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits, striking out four and walking three. Chad Bradford pitched two innings of shutout ball for Scorpions in relief. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out none and walking none.
Scorpions piled up nine hits in the game. Jeff Cirillo and Edgar Martinez were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Scorpions while hitting back-to-back. Posada provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Scorpions with two runs batted in. The switch hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Jose Offerman stole two bases. Scorpions turned two double plays in the game. Scorpions were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Helton had the most chances in the field with eight.
Ken Griffey Jr provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Sledgehammers with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Griffey Jr and Jeff Bagwell each collected two hits for Sledgehammers. Sledgehammers turned one double play in the game.
