Paul O’Neill Helps Scorpions Slug Their Way To Victory Against Massapequa Mafia

Paul O’Neill hit two home runs and drove in four as Scorpions defeated Massapequa Mafia 8-1 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. O’Neill homered in the first and eighth innings.


Scorpions got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Dave Berg grounded out, scoring one run, and O’Neill homered to center field, scoring three runs.


Scorpions added one run in the third after Glenallen Hill singled to left field.


Two more Scorpions runs crossed the plate in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 8-1. Berg hit into a double play, but one run scored, and O’Neill hit a solo home run to center field.


Al Leiter earned the win for Scorpions. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking four. Andy Pettitte took the loss for Massapequa Mafia. The starting pitcher went seven innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking two. Tom Gordon and Graeme Lloyd each threw scoreless innings for Scorpions in relief.


Scorpions tallied nine hits in the game. O’Neill and Hill each collected two hits for Scorpions. Scorpions turned two double plays in the game. Scorpions were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Mike Redmond made the most plays with nine.


Javy Lopez led the team with one run batted in. Travis Fryman led Massapequa Mafia with two hits in four at bats. Massapequa Mafia turned three double plays in the game.
