Pitching Impressive As Scorpions Beat Sledgehammers

Both teams were strong on the bump on Tuesday, but Scorpions defeated Sledgehammers 3-2. Al Leiter started the game for Scorpions and recorded 21 outs.
Scorpions didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the eighth when Edgar Martinez singled, scoring one run.
Scorpions got on the board in the first inning after Otis Nixon singled, scoring one run.
David Segui doubled to center field, which helped Sledgehammers tie the game at one in the top of the fifth.
A single by Paul O’Neill gave Scorpions the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the seventh.
Ken Griffey Jr homered to left field, which helped Sledgehammers tie the game at two in the top of the eighth.
Graeme Lloyd earned the win for Scorpions. The reliever allowed one hit and one run over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Kevin Brown took the loss for Sledgehammers. The pitcher went eight innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking two. Leiter began the game for Scorpions. The left-handed pitcher gave up five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out five and walking four. Tom Gordon collected the save.
Martinez and Nixon each collected two hits for Scorpions. O’Neill, Martinez, and Nixon each drove in one run for Scorpions. Scorpions turned two double plays in the game. Scorpions didn't commit a single error in the field. Jim Thome had the most chances in the field with 13.
Griffey Jr went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Sledgehammers in hits. Segui and Griffey Jr each drove in one run for Sledgehammers. Sledgehammers turned one double play in the game. Sledgehammers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Jeff Bagwell made the most plays with 11.
