Pitching Impressive As Sledgehammers Beat Yesterday’s Knights




Both teams were strong on the mound on Tuesday, but Sledgehammers defeated Yesterday’s Knights 2-1. Curt Schilling started the game for Sledgehammers and recorded 24 outs.


Sledgehammers were the first to get on the board in the fourth when Juan Gonzalez homered to left field, scoring two runs.


Yesterday’s Knights scored one run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run to left field by Gary Sheffield.


Schilling started the game for Sledgehammers. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and one run over eight innings, striking out seven and walking none. Matt Morris stepped on the bump first for Yesterday’s Knights. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking three. John Wetteland tossed one inning of zero-run ball for Sledgehammers in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out none and walking one.


Gonzalez drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sledgehammers with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Gonzalez, Jeff Bagwell, Brad Ausmus, Bret Boone, Ken Caminiti, and Moises Alou each collected one hit for Sledgehammers. Sledgehammers turned two double plays in the game. Sledgehammers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bagwell had the most chances in the field with 11.


Sheffield led Yesterday’s Knights with one run batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Alex Rodriguez led Yesterday’s Knights with two hits in three at bats. Yesterday’s Knights turned one double play in the game. Yesterday’s Knights were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. John Olerud made the most plays with 16.
