Ramon Martinez Leads Kelly Leak Allstars Past Suffolk Suns 5-1 to Sweep opening Series

Ramon Martinez struck out 10 batters as the hurler led Kelly Leak Allstars past Suffolk Suns 5-1 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Martinez allowed five hits and one run over seven innings while walking seven.


Kelly Leak Allstars got on the board in the fifth inning after Manny Ramirez hit a solo home run to center field.


David Wells took the loss for Suffolk Suns. The pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on 11 hits, striking out six and walking four. Doug Brocail pitched two innings of no-run ball for Kelly Leak Allstars in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out three and walking one.


Kelly Leak Allstars tallied 11 hits in the game. Ramirez drove the middle of the lineup, leading Kelly Leak Allstars with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Scott Brosius led Kelly Leak Allstars with three hits in four at bats. Andruw Jones and Carlos Hernandez each collected multiple hits for Kelly Leak Allstars. Kelly Leak Allstars were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Hernandez made the most plays with 10.


Chipper Jones went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Suffolk Suns had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Ray Durham and Carlos Delgado led the team with two bases on balls each. Scott Elarton threw an immaculate inning in the eighth, striking out the side on nine pitches.


Kelly Leak Allstars play at home on Tuesday against M and H Lumber Company in their next game.
