Ray Durham and Jim Edmonds Powers Suffolk Suns Past Yesterday’s Knights for Series Win



Ray Durham hit two home runs and drove in two as Suffolk Suns defeated Yesterday’s Knights 8-7 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Durham homered in the second and fifth innings.


Suffolk Suns rallied for the victory despite trailing 6-0 in the second.


Yesterday’s Knights got on the board in the top of the second inning after Ellis Burks tripled to left field, John Olerud singled to right field, and Larry Walker singled to right field, each scoring two runs.


Suffolk Suns made the score 6-4 in the bottom of the second inning when Andres Gallaraga hit a solo home run to center field, Jim Edmonds homered to right field, scoring two runs, and Durham hit a solo home run to right field.


Suffolk Suns scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to center field by Durham.


Richard Hidalgo hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the eighth for the Yesterday’s Knights.


Suffolk Suns captured the lead, 8-7, in the bottom of the eighth after Yesterday’s Knights committed an error, Edmonds singled to center field, and Gary DiSarcina doubled to left field, each scoring one run.


Sterling Hitchcock pitched three innings in relief for Suffolk Suns. The reliever allowed one hit and zero runs while, striking out none and walking two. David Wells stepped on the hill first for Suffolk Suns. The starter gave up six hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, striking out none and walking three. John Smoltz led things off on the mound for Yesterday’s Knights. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking none.


Suffolk Suns tallied 10 hits in the game. Edmonds led Suffolk Suns with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Edmonds, Barry Bonds, and Durham each collected two hits for Suffolk Suns. Suffolk Suns turned two double plays in the game. Suffolk Suns didn't commit a single error in the field. Gallaraga had the most chances in the field with nine.


Yesterday’s Knights amassed 10 hits in the game. Olerud led Yesterday’s Knights with three hits in five at bats. Walker, Burks, and Olerud each drove in two runs for Yesterday’s Knights. Yesterday’s Knights had patience at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Gary Sheffield, Derek Jeter, and John Valentin led the team with two bases on balls each. Yesterday’s Knights turned two double plays in the game.


Suffolk Suns play at home on Tuesday against Sledgehammers in their next game.
