Ray Durham Puts On Strong Performance As Suffolk Suns Take The Win Over Yesterday’s Knights





Ray Durham collected four hits in five at bats, as Suffolk Suns defeated Yesterday’s Knights 13-3 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Durham hit a home run to right field in the second inning, doubled in the fifth inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.


Kerry Wood struck out 12 batters on the day. The hurler also allowed 14 hits and three runs over nine innings while walking five.


Suffolk Suns were the first to get on the board in the first when Carlos Delgado homered to center field, scoring two runs.


Five more Suffolk Suns runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Durham homered to right field, scoring three runs, and Chipper Jones singled, scoring two runs.


Five more Suffolk Suns runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 12-2. Jones doubled, scoring one run, John Smoltz induced Andres Gallaraga to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Smoltz induced Derek Bell to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Jim Edmonds homered to center field, scoring two runs.


Jason Giambi hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the ninth for the Yesterday’s Knights.


Smoltz started the game for Yesterday’s Knights. The hurler allowed 15 hits and 13 runs (11 earned) over eight innings, striking out 10 and walking six.


Suffolk Suns amassed 15 hits in the game. Edmonds, Durham, and Jones each drove in three runs for Suffolk Suns. Gary DiSarcina collected three hits for Suffolk Suns in five at bats. Barry Bonds led Suffolk Suns with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Suffolk Suns turned two double plays in the game.


Yesterday’s Knights tallied 14 hits in the game. Ellis Burks led Yesterday’s Knights with two runs batted in. The left fielder went 4-for-5 on the day. Larry Walker and Jason Kendall each collected multiple hits for Yesterday’s Knights. Yesterday’s Knights turned two double plays in the game.
