Reed it and Weep : Ken Griffey Jr’s Power On Display As Sledgehammers Defeat M and H Lumber Company

Ken Griffey Jr hit two home runs and drove in three as Sledgehammers defeated M and H Lumber Company 8-4 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Griffey Jr homered in the first and eighth innings.


Sledgehammers jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Moises Alou doubled, scoring one run, and Griffey Jr homered to center field, scoring two runs.


Rafael Palmeiro homered to center field, which helped M and H Lumber Company tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth.


In the top of the eighth inning, Sledgehammers went back into the lead after Griffey Jr homered to center field, and Raul Mondesi homered to center field, each scoring one run.


M and H Lumber Company scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run to center field by Vinny Castilla.


Sledgehammers added to their lead with three runs in the top of the ninth inning thanks to home runs by Bret Boone, Jeff Bagwell, and Albert Belle.


Curt Schilling earned the win for Sledgehammers. The starter allowed nine hits and four runs over eight innings, striking out eight and walking three. Steve Reed took the loss for M and H Lumber Company. The hurler went one inning, surrendering two runs on two hits, striking out one and walking none. Jamie Moyer led things off on the mound for M and H Lumber Company. The pitcher surrendered eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking one. John Wetteland tossed one inning of zero-run ball for Sledgehammers in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out one and walking none.


Sledgehammers collected 13 hits in the game. Juan Gonzalez, Bagwell, Griffey Jr, Barry Larkin, and Belle each collected two hits for Sledgehammers. Sledgehammers turned one double play in the game. Sledgehammers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Brad Ausmus had the most chances in the field with five.


M and H Lumber Company accumulated nine hits in the game. Castilla provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led M and H Lumber Company with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Juan Encarnacion, Castilla, Palmeiro, and Vlad Guerrero each collected two hits for M and H Lumber Company. M and H Lumber Company turned one double play in the game.
