Scorpions Defeats Suffolk Suns In Pitcher's Duel




Both teams were strong on the mound on Tuesday, but Scorpions defeated Suffolk Suns 3-0. Randy Johnson started the game for Scorpions and recorded 27 outs.


The bottom of the lineup was strong for Scorpions. Gerald Williams, Jorge Posada, and Nomar Garciaparra combined for four of the team's eight hits in their victory. They scored one run and drove in two.


Scorpions got on the board in the top of the second inning after Posada doubled to center field, and Williams singled to left field, each scoring one run.


Johnson earned the win for Scorpions. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over nine innings, striking out nine and walking seven. Andy Ashby took the loss for Suffolk Suns. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking three.


Williams and Glenallen Hill each collected two hits for Scorpions. Williams, Posada, and Edgar Martinez each drove in one run for Scorpions. Scorpions turned two double plays in the game.


Derek Bell and Jim Edmonds each collected one hit for Suffolk Suns. Barry Bonds led Suffolk Suns with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game. Suffolk Suns were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Charles Johnson made the most plays with 10.
