Sledgehammers Claim 6-3 Victory Over Kelly Leak Allstars to Start Season 7-0




Sledgehammers outsted Kelly Leak Allstars 6-3 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.


A double by Albert Belle put Sledgehammers on the board in the top of the first.


Eric Davis hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the second for the Kelly Leak Allstars.


Davis homered to center field, which helped Kelly Leak Allstars tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth.


Sledgehammers took the lead in the top of the fifth. Jeff Bagwell hit a solo home run to right field, to give Sledgehammers the edge, 3-2.


Kevin Brown started the game for Sledgehammers. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and three runs over nine innings, striking out eight and walking one. Greg Maddux started on the hill for Kelly Leak Allstars. The starting pitcher allowed nine hits and six runs (five earned) over nine innings, striking out four and walking one.


Sledgehammers collected nine hits in the game. Belle drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sledgehammers with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Moises Alou, Barry Larkin, and Belle each collected two hits for Sledgehammers. Sledgehammers turned two double plays in the game. Sledgehammers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Brad Ausmus made the most plays with eight.


Davis provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Kelly Leak Allstars with two runs batted in. The left fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Kelly Leak Allstars turned one double play in the game.
