Sledgehammers were triumphant over Scorpions 6-1 on Friday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.
Sledgehammers were the first to get on the board in the first when Moises Alou doubled, scoring one run.
Sledgehammers scored three runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to center field by Ken Griffey Jr.
Juan Gonzalez hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Sledgehammers.
Sledgehammers scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run to center field by Bret Boone.
Mike Mussina opened the game for Sledgehammers. The starter allowed seven hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight and walking none. Donovan Osborne started on the hill for Scorpions. The southpaw surrendered six hits and four runs over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Troy Percival threw one and two-thirds innings of shutout ball for Sledgehammers in relief. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit, striking out two and walking none.
Sledgehammers tallied 13 hits in the game. Griffey Jr provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Sledgehammers with three runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Boone, Alou, Barry Larkin, and Albert Belle each collected two hits for Sledgehammers. Sledgehammers didn't commit a single error in the field. Jeff Bagwell had the most chances in the field with eight.
Scorpions collected nine hits in the game. Jose Offerman went 3-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Todd Helton collected two hits for Scorpions in four at bats.
