Strat Pack 1998: Disco Turkeys Shake Up Roster After Draft

In a bold move just two nights after the draft, Rich O’Connor, manager of the Disco Turkeys, announced a significant roster shake-up. The team has waived pitchers Denny Neagle and Masato Yoshii, opting to bolster their pitching staff by adding veterans Ramiro Mendoza and Chuck Finley.

Mendoza, who had a standout season with the New York Yankees in 1998, finished with a remarkable 10-2 record and a 3.25 ERA over 41 appearances, showcasing his reliability with 56 strikeouts in 130.1 innings. His performance was highlighted by his ability to limit runs, allowing only 47 earned runs while demonstrating durability throughout the season.

Chuck Finley, of the Anaheim Angels, also brings a wealth of experience to the Turkeys. In 1998, Finley recorded an 11-9 record with a 3.39 ERA, solidifying his status as a reliable starter with 212 strikeouts in 223.1 innings pitched. His knack for controlling the game is underscored by a 1.428 WHIP, making him a formidable addition to the team’s rotation.

The departures of Neagle and Yoshii, who struggled to find consistency last season, signal the Turkeys' intent to enhance their competitive edge in the Strat Pack league. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the integration of Mendoza and Finley is expected to provide much-needed depth and experience on the mound.
