Suffolk Suns beat Scorpions 6-4 on Tuesday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four in the top of the eighth when Derek Bell singled, scoring two runs.
Kerry Wood struck out 10 batters on the day. The starter also gave up five hits and four runs over eight innings while walking nine.
Scorpions were the first to get on the board in the first when Rafael Palmeiro hit into a double play, but one run scored.
A home run to right field by Carlos Delgado gave Suffolk Suns the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third.
A home run to center field by Vladimir Guerrero gave Scorpions the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the third.
Chipper Jones homered to center field, which helped Suffolk Suns tie the game at four in the top of the sixth.
Roger Clemens started on the bump for Scorpions. The righty gave up seven hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking four. Ugueth Urbina pitched one inning of no-run ball for Suffolk Suns in relief. The pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out one and walking none.
Jim Edmonds, Bell, and Jones each collected two hits for Suffolk Suns. Bell and Delgado each drove in two runs for Suffolk Suns. Suffolk Suns turned two double plays in the game. Suffolk Suns were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Sandy Alomar made the most plays with 13.
Guerrero provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Scorpions with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Jeff Cirillo led Scorpions with two hits in five at bats. Scorpions had patience at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Roberto Alomar, Jorge Posada, and Palmeiro led the team with two bases on balls each. Scorpions turned one double play in the game.
