The Joy of Six Sledgehammers Secure 6th Straight with Win 6-2 Against Yesterday’s Knights

Sledgehammers defeated Yesterday’s Knights 6-2 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.


Yesterday’s Knights were the first to get on the board in the first when Gary Sheffield hit a solo home run to left field.


Sledgehammers took the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third thanks to singles by Jeff Bagwell, and Albert Belle.


Yesterday’s Knights scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run to center field by Ellis Burks.


Mike Mussina started on the bump for Sledgehammers. The pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking one. Gil Heredia led things off on the hill for Yesterday’s Knights. The right-handed pitcher surrendered five hits and three runs over six innings, striking out four and walking three. John Wetteland pitched two innings of zero-run ball for Sledgehammers in relief. The righty gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking two.


Belle drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sledgehammers with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Leadoff hitter Barry Larkin led Sledgehammers with three hits in four at bats. Ken Caminiti paced Sledgehammers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.


Number seven hitter, Derek Jeter, showed the depth of Yesterday’s Knights's lineup, by leading them with two hits in four at bats. Sheffield and Burks each drove in one run for Yesterday’s Knights. Yesterday’s Knights didn't commit a single error in the field. John Olerud had the most chances in the field with seven.




Sledgehammers will travel to Kelly Leak Allstars for their next game on Tuesday.
