It came down to the wire on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746, as Massapequa Mafia grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 3-1, over Suffolk Suns. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the ninth when Frank Thomas homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Thomas homered in the ninth and fourth innings. Thomas hit two home runs in the victory.
Suffolk Suns got on the board in the second inning after Andres Gallaraga hit a solo home run to left field.
Thomas homered to left field, which helped Massapequa Mafia tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.
Andy Pettitte started on the mound for Massapequa Mafia. The starter gave up seven hits and one run over seven innings, striking out five and walking two. Andy Ashby started on the mound for Suffolk Suns. The pitcher surrendered four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out three and walking none. Gabe White and Mike Jackson each threw shutout innings for Massapequa Mafia in relief.
Massapequa Mafia turned two double plays in the game. Massapequa Mafia didn't commit a single error in the field. Mo Vaughn had the most chances in the field with 10.
Gallaraga led Suffolk Suns with one run batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Derek Bell led Suffolk Suns with two hits in three at bats. Suffolk Suns turned two double plays in the game.
Massapequa Mafia will travel to Yesterdays Knights for their next game on Tuesday.
