It came down to the wire on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746, as Suffolk Suns grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 3-2, over Scorpions. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the eleventh when Barry Bonds doubled, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Suffolk Suns pitchers struck out 13, while Scorpions sat down 13.
Suffolk Suns got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning after Andres Gallaraga singled to center field, and Gary DiSarcina hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Vladimir Guerrero homered to center field, which helped Scorpions tie the game at two in the top of the eighth.
Andy Ashby opened the game for Suffolk Suns. The starter surrendered six hits and two runs over seven and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking three. Donovan Osborne stepped on the bump first for Scorpions. The pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Scott Elarton, Ugueth Urbina, and John Rocker each came on in relief for Suffolk Suns and shutdown Scorpions.
Suffolk Suns tallied 10 hits in the game. Gallaraga and Ray Durham each collected two hits for Suffolk Suns. DiSarcina, Gallaraga, and Bonds each drove in one run for Suffolk Suns. Suffolk Suns were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Charles Johnson made the most plays with 15.
Guerrero drove the middle of the lineup, leading Scorpions with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-5 on the day. Scorpions's Glenallen Hill, the number seven hitter, led Scorpions with three hits in five at bats.
Suffolk Suns will travel to M and H Lumber Company for their next game on Tuesday.
