Yesterday’s Knights’s Gary Sheffield Powers Through Scorpions

Gary Sheffield hit two home runs and drove in six as Yesterday’s Knights defeated Scorpions 9-1 on Tuesday at 5100 Long Island Expy, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Sheffield homered in the seventh and fourth innings.


A home run to left field by Sheffield put Yesterday’s Knights on the board in the bottom of the fourth.


Ellis Burks hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth for the Yesterday’s Knights.


Alex Rodriguez hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth for the Yesterday’s Knights.


Yesterday’s Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh on a grand slam to left field by Sheffield.


Matt Morris stepped on the mound first for Yesterday’s Knights. The righty allowed six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking none. Al Leiter started on the hill for Scorpions. The starter gave up eight hits and eight runs over seven and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four. Mike Williams appeared in relief for Yesterday’s Knights.


Yesterday’s Knights piled up 11 hits in the game. John Olerud, Larry Walker, and Burks each collected multiple hits for Yesterday’s Knights. Yesterday’s Knights turned two double plays in the game. Yesterday’s Knights were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Olerud made the most plays with 11.


Scorpions collected 10 hits in the game. Jeff Cirillo, Paul O’Neill, and Glenallen Hill each collected two hits for Scorpions. O’Neill led Scorpions with one run batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Scorpions turned one double play in the game. Scorpions were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Nomar Garciaparra had the most chances in the field with nine.
